Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on March 16, 2010 |
In order to allow the founder to take some time off, a volunteer to help coordinate volunteers, teach Bible study every morning or as time is available to you, prepare and deliver meals, pick up food, coordinate the food service, and share God's Word, pray, and fellowship with the homeless would be appreciated. The founder presently spends about 5 to 9 hours a day on the streets every day preparing about 200 pounds of food and distributing over 100 meals most every day, and sharing Good News to the homeless and poor living in Waikiki. The volunteer would need to work with the founder to allow the homeless to get used to his/her presence and be willing to get involved when needed. After the homeless become familiar with his/her role, then the founder will allow the associate pastor or assistant to do the work on his/her own on certain days or as the need arises. No other actions are made unless the street person asks for help. We provide clothing, tracks, help for the homeless with other organizations, and hygiene products are offered when available. Bibles are always available to those who ask for one. Every evening, church service or a pastoral message is provided at the snack bar nearby the Waikiki Aquarium. We also provide Bible study and a continental breakfast every day at or near the same place. About 20 to 40 participate over the 2 hour to 4 hour study. On Sunday morning, and Thursday evening, we associate with Healing Waters Ministries Waikiki, Pastors Tuia and Dotti Fale, unifying the Body of Christ with other ministries. Pastor Rodney Shim, Evangelist, and Rabbi Daniel Klutstein, Counselor, and Baptism Coordinator Earl Canada also assist the founder regularly and are directors (Elders) also. Edward Dostillo, founder of the Hope House, is also helping to unify more organizations to share in the vision to help the poor and end homelessness in Waikiki and Hawaii. Are you willing to help change the world as Christ Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah, did and is doing through those who follow His Word? He or she should be anointed by God to be a shepherd or pastor to those who do not know about Jesus' saving grace. He/she needs to pray without ceasing as he follows God's will for him/her. Those in the field will encounter challenges that must be dealt with, including vulgarity, anger, pain, despair, and sometimes verbal and physical attacks. All denominations are welcome to participate to show God how much we care for Him by the way we treat the least of our brothers and sisters. We have been praying for an operating space near or in Waikiki for almost 6 years now, and we still find no organization or individual who has the resources yet provide that space. We are operating out of a garage and a van and cook in the park or at someones home. We store all the food there, instead of in a warehouse or operating facility. Is there someone there who hears our voice. Is there someone who hears the Voice of God that can help us? Are there any pastors or those who would like to minister to the poor or who would like to help the 350 souls in Waikiki every week? Is there someone who has a structure we can use to serve God?
