People With Basic Sewing Skills Needed For Teens! Family Friendly

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on January 27, 2010

Aloha,
Our nonprofit organization provides a free summer camp for the homeless children on the island of Hawai'i. In the past we were able to utilize the state park facilities complete with blankets, pillows and towels for our sleepover camp at the cabins. But due to the budget cuts, those are now gone, so we NEED Pillows, mostly for our keiki.
We prefer SMALL (about half the size of a reg. pillow). Our keiki are between the ages of 4-7, so they don't need large pillows, plus we have to transport ALL their stuff to camp.
Hoping to have volunteers sew pillows with cute (any fabric you have handy) cases attached, so they don't loose them, and we can wash them in one piece. The keiki will be able to choose their pillow and blanket at the camp. Last year they were able to choose their own blanket and not only did it make it more special, the keiki were so proud of their blankets. To have something new, something that belongs to only them makes a HUGE difference in their lives.
Last year at the Ho'olaulea downtown Hilo, I saw many of the children from camp with their blankets, I know they are holding them special for a long time!!
Also needed are: Towels, Washcloths and nature hunt bags. (Nature hunt bags should be made without a print and with fabric they can stamp with paint to decorate themselves. They need to include a handle for them to carry easily. Bags should be approx. 10 inches across and 12 inches long, or similar size. (I don't know if you can get one extra etc from a yard of fabric if the dimensions are a bit different)

Collectively we need 75 of each above item. We only require that each volunteer submit the number of item(s) they wish to sew. The items need to be delivered or mailed in the MONTH of JUNE ONLY! The first 2 weeks of June is preferred.
