Are you prepared for an emergency? In the event of a public health emergency, natural disaster, large scale event, or act
of terrorism, local organizations and individuals are the first to respond. Communities, families, and individuals need to be prepared to care for themselves for several days. Are you, your family, and your community ready?

Partner with the Hawaii Department of Health to make your community safer and more secure! We need your help to make a difference on the frontlines of public health.

What is the Medical Reserve Corps? The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is part of the Federal AmeriCorps and Citizen Corps Initiative. The MRC is an all volunteer group with many different skill sets. We need volunteers who have medical and non-medical backgrounds who want to serve their local communities during public health emergencies or large scale emergency response events.

Our mission is to establish local teams of volunteers who can contribute their skills and expertise for medical and public health services during times of community need and throughout the year.

Who should join? Anyone interested in being a MRC volunteer!

The MRC of Hawaii welcomes all people. You DO NOT have to have any medical experience to apply. However, licensed medical professionals and those with medical training are in demand.

Why should you join?
• You possess unique skills that can be used to help your family, friends, and community!
• We live in a very remote location which is particularly vulnerable in a natural disaster or public health crisis
• It is very important that Hawaii is self sufficient in an emergency situation at the community level
• The MRC’s mission is to provide medical support to fill in the existing gaps left by other volunteer agencies
What do members do?
• Help your local community!
• Help with public health emergency response
• Participate in drills and other emergency preparation activities
• Develop your skills
• Receive training
(two hours every three months)

Quarterly topic trainings that last about 2 hours are required. Completion of Incident Command System 100 and 700 are required.
