We grant the wishes of children in Hawaii with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, joy and aloha.
Description:
Many of the youngsters and their families have experienced emotional, physical and financial suffering that has left them with little to look forward to and few sources of happiness. We work to provide an escape from the reality of the child's illness into a world where dreams do, in fact, come true. At Make-A-Wish, we like to say that when the doctor's provide the medicine and Make-A-Wish provides the magic, miracles can happen.
History:
Incorporated in 1982, Make-A-Wish, Hawaii, is one of 71 chapters in 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Territory of Guam, that comprise the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. There are also 27 affiliates on five continents that comprise Make-A-Wish International. This worldwide organization originated after a small group of friends fulfilled the dream of dying youngster who wished to become an Arizona State Trooper. Make-A-Wish is now the world's largest non-profit wish granting charity. With the help of generous donors and more than 20,000 volunteers, the Foundation has granted more than 100,000 wishes to children around the world since 1980.
