The American Lung Association of Hawaii's(ALAH) mission is to prevent lung disease and to promote lung health through research, education, and advocacy. The ALAH's program priorities include tobacco control, asthma management and education and air quality issues.
Description:
The American Lung Association Hawaii is a private, non-profit organization and is an affiliate of the nationwide American Lung Association. Through its main office in Honolulu and Neighbor Island Branches covering all counties of the State, the Association provides programs and community services through smoking prevention and cessation training, asthma management and awareness programs and environmental health health initiatives.
History:
The American Lung Association was founded in 1929 on Kauai, it is the oldest voluntary health organization in the State of Hawaii. Home based on Oahu with branch offices serving all islands of Hawaii, the ALAH is a "grass roots" organization led by a board of directors comprised of local community volunteers.
