The American Lung Association in Hawaii's (ALAH) mission is to save lives by preventing lung disease and to promoting lung health through research, education, and advocacy. The ALAH's program priorities include tobacco control, asthma management and education and air quality issues.
Description:
The American Lung Association in Hawaii is a private, non-profit organization and is an affiliate of the nationwide American Lung Association. Through its main office in Honolulu and Neighbor Island Branches covering many counties of the State, the Association provides programs and community services through smoking prevention and cessation training, asthma management and awareness programs and environmental health health initiatives.
History:
The American Lung Association in Hawaii was founded in 1929 on Kauai; it is the oldest voluntary health organization in the State of Hawaii. Based on Oahu with branch offices on Maui and Hawaii Island, the ALAH is part of the regional American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific.
