Animal CARE Foundation was formed to protect Hawai'i's animals with no kill CARE and control assistance. We work through rights advocacy education, community prevention assistance programming and stray/abandoned animal rescue methodologies.

Description:
Our foster network helps healthy, injured and ill animals in conjunction with our veterinary services. We provide no and at cost general medical and spay/neuter services to the community and especially feral cat colony managers and rescuers. We promote vegan lifestyle for both humans and animals. And, finally, we are actively involved in the legislative and social change arenas, promoting respect for animals and their needs as equals to humans.

History:
We have spent many years actively campaigning against the kill methodology of companion animal control. We have, further, helped and protected displaced, abandoned and feral animals caught in the current humancentric, kill-oriented societal lifestyle.

To effect social change, we work in the legislative arena as well as actively educating the public and protesting animal abuses. We have a dedicated campaigns manager working toward systemic change. We regularly participate in the City and County as well as the State legislative process and are working on expanding our ability to properly support the need for a ballot initiative campaign. Volunteers are the lifeblood of this organizing activity, helping with everything from leaflet production, media commercial production and signature procurement.

To help the animals caught in the current system, we promote abandonment prevention through our support system. We regularly educate the families of companion animals on ways to keep their families together, provide support through transitional times and provide counseling and mediation where necessary.

We promote and participate in feral cat Trap/Neuter/Return work, both in organizing care of animals and mediation of animal/human conflicts. We have provided free spay/neuter and free or at-cost microchipping to feral caretakers and low/no income community members for four years and currently are working to expand this programming.

We also provide low/no cost care to rescued and feral animals as our resources allow. We are currently working to expand this area of our care as well and will also be working to help network feral colony managers with each other and other volunteers willing to help with temporary care needs in case of emergency.

Our foster care network provides refuge for the ill, injured and displaced as well as for those too young or too old until appropriate permanent homes can be found. Volunteers in this area is one of our greatest needs.

Our adoption services help thousands move into permanent homes annually.

Our wildlife rehabilitator's support helps both educate and support Hawai'i's wildlife rehabilitator community. We have taught rehabilitator classes in the past and are planning to resume them again this summer (2005).

We promote vegan lifestyle for animals and humans and can discuss specific needs to help with the transition to a cruelty-free lifestyle. We can also assist with resource listings for food, clothing, daily essentials and not so essential needs.
