URGENT REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS, PARTNERSHIPS, AND FOOD.

CHURCHES, INDIVIDUALS, OR OUTREACH MINISTRIES REQUESTED TO PROVIDE WARM MEAL FOR 100 HOMELESS IN WAIKIKI ONCE A WEEK (EVEN ONCE A MONTH) EVERY DAY EXCEPT WEDNESDAYS.

The Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry is a ministry dedicated to providing food and ministry for the homeless who live or work on the streets in Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, to let them know that God will help them with all their needs. We also provide a Bible study and continental breakfast seven days a week every morning.

Our mission also includes a desire to provide Bibles, prayer, fellowship, and Good Words that might be the voice of the Lord who may touch their lives. Since only one group of believers (H-5) from the First Methodist Church on Beretania regularly provides a nice meal on Wednesdays, the goal is to provide the meals for the homeless the other six days of the week. (Other churches have also recently begun to provide meals elsewhere, now, on Thursdays and Sundays in addition to what we are doing).

We believe all citizens of the USA deserve a safe home to abide. Additional scope includes influencing others to recognize the civil rights of the homeless and to ensure all men, including the homeless, are treated equal according to the federal constitution. We will pursue all avenues to help the homeless in Waikiki to obtain food, drink, clothes, housing, jobs, medical care, and legal assistance. We have begun to formulate the plan to provide homes for all citizens and end homelessness in the USA.

The ministry needs affordable operating space within walking distance from Waikiki Beach. If anyone can help provide an operating facility or an owner is willing to donate some kind of space, please call 808-497-6920. It will need a commercial space that has a kitchen, or use of a church, or a house the pastor could use. The pastor of the ministry has been relying on God for all his needs the past 5 years.

OTHER CHURCHES OR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHO WANT TO HELP HOMELESS COULD ACT NOW.

Tikvat Yisrael Messianic Congregation and a few of its members, Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy and a few members, Kapahulu Bible Church and a few members, and a few members of other churches, several business owners, and a few others who see the miracles happening are tithing regularly in order to provide up to 2400 or more meals each month. We are far short from enough funding so the pastor doesn't have to use his pension, as he has been doing for the past five years. It needs a total of six churches or individuals to prepare one meal per week or more to do it once a month. It cost about $100 per day to feed the homeless in Waikiki the way the ministry has been operating. We need an operating facility. Ohana West presently allows us to use a 3x17 ft. storage space and we store about 3 to 5 days of food in a van, recently donatated from a minister in Florida, that we park on the streets in Waikiki. We need a parking space close to the Kapiolani Park. The pastor sleeps on a floor in a n elderly housing project he was recently approved for after applying many years ago for help; and used to sleep in tool sheds, garages, carports, and floors before that help came. The rent and utilities are more than 50% of his pension. Can you help change this situation?

Description:
Desiring to be disciples of Christ Jesus, God has led us to establish the Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry to feed and minister to over 300 homeless and about 50 others who are very poor and hungry from Queen Kapiolani Beach Park (near the Natatorium) to Ala Moana Blvd and Ala Wai Canal (inclusive of all of Waikiki). In 2002 there were only 150 homeless then. God has shown us that the Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry will distribute food to the homeless six or seven days a week as resources become available.

God has led us to distribute over one thousand Bibles so far. He has provided us with food for just under 100,000 meals (and thousands more drinks and snacks) to the homeless on Waikiki Beach since July 4, 2003 to the end of September 2008. We served over 27,000 meals in the past 12 months alone. 'About five thousand men had eaten' (Mat 14:21) by May 2004. Now over 600 meals are served every week; We have a cart with coolers of food and bags of bread and utensils. We walk along the street and beach, feeding the poor as we go once a week and have services 5 days a week.

Today, we have Bible study and breakfast every day of the week near the snack bar at Queen's Beach near the Waikiki Aquarium at 8:30 AM. In the evenings, at 6 PM we provide a picnic dinner and a message from God every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday we still pull the cart to see over 200 homeless citizens. Every Sunday, Bob and Pastor Rodney Shim now have teamed up with Healing Waters Ministry, pastors Tuia and Dottie, and have special church services under a tent by the banyon tree by the Kapiolani Bandstand and Bus stop. We provide a meal and fellowship there from 8:30 AM till 3 PM or so. Most of the homeless and hungry know us and many invite us to share some good news and fellowship, intercessory prayer, a Bible, or desire some assistance to get off the beach. They know we are committed to help them in any way we can. Are you moved to help the Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry with your time and resources?

We are in need of:

A. Financial support to buy food, carts, coolers, pots and pans, paper plates, napkins, cups, forks and spoons, and other expendables;

B. Join into a partnership with the ministry with a pledge of $100 or more per month (at least enough for one day a month);

C. Churches or individuals to cook and deliver a meal for 100 people once a week at the Queens Beach Snack Shop by the Waikiki Aquarium at 5:45 PM any day (Call Bob at 497-6920 to coordinate)

D. Food, including rice, pasta, mashed potatoe buds, cakes, pies, pastries, pancake mix, beans, tomato sauce, spaghetti and sauce, sweet rolls, sub sandwiches, sushi, bentos, sandwiches, hamburger, hot dogs, Spam, lunch meats, fried chicken, raw meats, fruit, sausage, pudding cups, snacks, spices, condiments, bread, and other appropriate food items (a steak dinner and ice cream would be a real treat since we have never had it yet);

E. Hygiene products, toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, razors, clothes, daily labor, jobs;

F. Grant to purchase or use of a commercial facility to store and cook food in or near Waikiki (we are storing the wagons and food in a parking lot right now);

G. Volunteers, entertainers, cooks, musicians, persons with a drivers license to pick up food as needed; and;

H. Whatever help you or your organization can donate, including Bibles, computers, bicycles, MOTOR SCOOTER, office supplies, cars, paper, copier, printing assistance, etc.

WE NEED NEW SPACE AND A NEW FACILITY, FOOD, FUNDS, VOLUNTEERS, AND SUPPORTERS WHO DESIRE TO END HOMELESSNESS. WHO WILL STEP UP AND SPONSOR US AFTER FIVE YEAR? HOW LONG DO WE NEED TO BEG?

ARE THERE ANY CHURCHES THAT HAVE A KITCHEN THAT COULD PROVIDE A WARM MEAL ONCE A WEEK FOR 100 SOULS OR MORE? AFTER 5 YEARS WE FINALLY FOUND ONE CHURCH THAT DOES THIS ONCE A WEEK, WILL YOUR CHURCH CONSIDER IT? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP THE POOR AS JESUS INSTRUCTED US TO DO? WHERE IS THE BODY OF CHRIST WORKING TOGETHER?

Check out Deuteronomy 15, Leviticus 25, Isaiah 58, Matthew 25, and other scriptures tell us to help the poor, not to fix up church buildings or add new space. What is your church doing to help the poor outside your walls? We want to work with you to respond to God's calling to all of us to help the poor, cripple, widows, orphans, elderly, lame, blind and less fortunate around us.

The ambassador to the Vatican suggested all leaders and those who call themselves Christians should do four things:

  1. DO something to help the poor (See Deu 15:4)
  2. Pray for our leaders.
  3. Meet in small groups to develop fellowship and intimacy accomplishing things together.
  4. Love God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength.

  5. History:
    Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry was initiated as a committee under The Body of Christ Jesus Fellowship July 4, 2003, when food was first distributed. As the outreach and food supply grew, the Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry became independent and was registered in Hawaii as a Domestic Non-Profit Corporation on March 1, 2004 by Robert E. Erb, Jr. under Chapter 414D-32, Hawaii Revised Statues. It's objective is to feed and minister to the homeless in Waikiki Beach six days a week. The original funding has been derived from what God has provided Bob Erb through his pension since July 2003 and most of the funds still come from his pension (about $1000 per month) but needs more food and funds from others. Presently, the Waikiki Beach Outreach Ministry is feeding 80 to 160 people six times a week as God dropped more food to the ministry. The outreach is growing and needs additional volunteers. We need other churches, outreaches, organizations and individuals to assist with providing food on a regular basis. God had dropped food supplies that exceed the hours of the volunteers available. One example of a volunteer Heather, a student from Chaminade University who had been providing 120 sandwiches every Thursday since October 2007 and Jenny from Japan who provided food in lunch bags every Sunday since December 2004 and now tithes, while the pastor, Bob, distributes them. Are you willing to volunteer?

    God has shown us that the ministry is also in need of an office, food service facility, would like to apply for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status (needs $540 application fee), now has ONE church, Tikvat Yisrael, is now sponsoring the ministry but still cannot buy food from the Food Bank yet, hope to apply for grants, and register independently thereafter. We now have Tikvat Yisrael Messianic Congregation that is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt church that can also accept contributions for this ministry if that status is improtant. The ministry has no operating facility, the food is being stored at many locations, the wagons are being stored in a parking garage, and the pastor is sleeping on a floor, allowing him to use his pension for food. Because of the pastor's long suffering in living in tool sheds and garages, his consistancy in providing these services to the poor need to be regcognized by others and others need to come to help him. A worker is due his wages, but he is paying for the job. BOB IS PLANNING TO CLOSE THIS MINISTRY AFTER THE END OF 2008 UNLESS AN OPERATING FACILITY AND A STIPEND IS PROVIDED (WE MAY LOOSE HIM TO THE PEACE CORP). Can you help? NOW, we need a new facility and additional funding, and provide the founding pastor an a salary (unless you believe someone should work for no wages forever). The pastors and all helpers are not asking for any wages at this time. The pastor is paying for all administration costs out of the pension God has given him and 100% of all donations have been used to purchase food. Are you willing to assist in some small way?

    Rodney Shim, an ordained pastor from other churches (and registered to preform marriages), has joined this ministry at the end of 2006 and has been elected to be the evangelist and a director for this ministry. He presently has a part time job as a counselor, and his heart desires to be in the ministry full time. We also have Earl Canada, the Baptism Coordinator, who focuses on helping lead the homeless to know Jesus. We have Maurice and Medrick who have been providing meals most weeks for over a year, now. We have Lahua and Bruce who volunteer serving most days of the week. Can you help us?
