History:
The roots of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawai'i go back go the 1960 chartering of the Lester McCoy Boys' Club under the auspices of Charles C. Spalding, Garner Anthony, and Arthur B. Reinwald. Ground breaking for the Waiola Street Club took place in 1976. During this time, the Club name was changed to Boys' Club of Honolulu; a lease was secured on a portion of the Washington Intermediate School grounds; fund-raising topped $600,000; and an architect and contractor were hired, as well as an executive director and staff. The Club has made steady growth and continual improvement over the past 30 years growing from one site to 11.
