Description:
PBS Hawaii, a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), is a community-supported, noncommercial public television station broadcasting throughout the state of Hawaii.

History:
In 1965, Hawaii ETV Network was established to serve as a source of instructional programming for Hawaii's school children. A year later, the Network began its first broadcast on KHET-Channel 11 from the University Lab School. In 1972, the Hawaii State Legislature established the Hawaii Public Broadcasting Authority, also known as Hawaii Public Television (HPTV). This new authority allowed HPTV to expand its programming to extend beyond instructional needs, adding PBS national and local entertainment, comedy, drama, news and documentary programming. In February 2003, HPTV changed its name to PBS Hawaii.
