Description:
The American Cancer Society provides many services for cancer survivors without charge such as wigs (Toppers), transportation (Angels on Wheels) to and from medical centers, temporary use of many types of home healthcare equipment including one-to-one help from caring trained volunteers (Reach to Recovery)who have survived breast cancer. Support groups are also available.

History:
The American Cancer Society was founded in 1913 as the American Society for the Control of Cancer (ASCC). It is a voluntary association of people united in a determined effort to conquer cancer. The Society's national headquarters is in Atlanta, Georgia. The Society is composed of chartered divisions and offices nationwide and Puerto Rico. Within these divisions are more than 3,000 local units, many of which are subdivided into branches. All are engaged in a comprehensive program for cancer research, education, advocacy, and service.
