Agape Housing Development is a start-up not for profit Supportive Housing Corporation established on the island of Oahu.

The mission of Agape Housing Development is to create permanent, affordable housing solutions for working families and individuals that are plagued by homelessness, and have multiple barriers to employment and housing stability.

The vision of Agape Housing Development is to provide support services that empower self-sufficiency and promote stable and productive living.

The function of Agape Housing Development is to bring about change into individuals and society.

Description:
Supportive housing is a cost-effective blend of housing and services intended to help people live more secure and constructive lives. Supportive housing works well for people with complex challenges such as homelessness, and or serious, persistent issues that may include: substance abuse, addiction or alcoholism, mental illness, HIV/AIDS, etc. Supportive Housing can be coupled with such social services as job training, life skills training, alcohol and drug abuse programs and case management to populations in need of assistance.

Ideally, the types and level of services provided by any supportive housing facility is dependent upon the specific needs and wishes of the tenants, the size of the project, the housing model, the proximity to other services utilized by tenants, the organizational infrastructure and capacity, sponsor requirements, and budget constraints. Service programs also require adjustment as the needs and interests of the tenants and the housing project evolve and change.

Agape will offer, either directly or through partnerships, services that are easily accessible and available to tenants. Agape will also provide dedicated staff to serve the residents of the housing project while leveraging community resources where appropriate and available.

The specific need for services is difficult to determine in advance, given that the tenant core is not established. It is assumed that the majority of residents will require services around vocational counseling, money management, alcohol and drug abuse programs, case management, housing retention, and high school equivalency preparation. In addition, families may need a range of services specifically for children and youth such as health, mental health, after school, and activity programs. With children in the household, services dealing with appropriate food budgeting, shopping, and meal preparation also take on a greater importance.

Prior to implementing any services or programs, Agape will conduct surveys with potential candidates and hold focus group meetings with parents, children and teens to get their input. There will also be opportunities for ongoing input and revision to services and programs after the implementation phase.
