Description:
Agape Housing Development is a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) Supportive Housing corporation established on the island of Oahu. John and Ikuyo Barnette are the founders of the organization, and are currently working on establishing the entity as a full-time venture.

Core Values:
Integrity and Trust - We are committed to conducting business transactions with honesty, integrity, and transparency.

Respect for the Individual - We value and respect the unique combination of skills, abilities, aspirations and backgrounds of every individual.

Merit - We support equal and fair treatment for all, and believe in demonstrating consistency of treatment towards individuals at all levels of the organization.

Teamwork - We value and utilize others' abilities in an ongoing process of learning, relationship building, finding common ground, and working collaboratively to achieve common goals.

Services:
Agape Housing Development lacks the capacity to lead a new housing development at the moment. Consequently, the Organization has implemented a supportive services program that incorporates the following initiatives:

Intake and referral and other needed services to eligible unsheltered homeless persons to assist in the progression toward a healthier, more stable living condition with the ultimate goal of permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Addressing participants’ basic survival needs, i.e. basic medical care, food, clothing, identification, shelter (as best as possible) and help identify the causes of their homelessness and barriers to achieving a more stable living condition.

Counseling and referral, including assisting participants in addressing identified needs and barriers, and facilitating referrals to local, state and federal programs and private sector agencies for further services, such as emergency or transitional shelter, employment training, mental health services or educational training.

Market Segmentation:
Agape Housing Development has segmented the working homeless population into two distinct categories: the unemployed and the underemployed. Some demographic information that is relevant to both groups:

Have been homeless for long periods of time (at least one year or more), or have experienced repeated (three or more times) stays in the streets, emergency shelters, or other temporary settings.

Average income does not exceed 30% of the Area Median Income.

Is employed or seeking employment, but experience barriers and stigmas that make it difficult to find and or keep a job.

Cannot obtain or retain appropriate stable housing without easy, facilitated access to services focused on providing necessary supports to the tenant household.

Target Market Segment Strategy:
Agape Housing Development has chosen these two target markets because they exhibit the greatest need for immediate long-term housing solutions, and will significantly benefit from the services provided by this organization.

History:
Agape Housing Development was established in October of 2009. Our focus is to organize a supportive housing facility on the island of Oahu that will impact social change, and improve the quality of life for every occupant that resides in the facility. We also aim to cultivate relationships with homeless service providers and outreach agencies, and establish a positive presence in the community.
