Bay Clinic is a nonprofit network of five community health centers serving East and South Hawaii Island in the districts of Puna, Kau, and Hilo. Our mission is to provide high quality, patient centered, comprehensive health care that is accessible, affordable, coordinated, culturally competent, and community directed for all.

Description:
Bay Clinic is a federally qualified community health center, federally designated to provide low-cost health care to the underserved and uninsured in our communities. We serve 16,000 people annually with 48,000 medical, dental, and behavioral health encounters. We provide care to all regardless of ability to pay. We have 130 staff members consisting of physicians, physician assistants, advance practice registered nurses, family nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, dentists, dental residents, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, dental hygienists, dental assistants, patient service representatives, care coordinators, health information technologies engineers and technicians, medical records, billing, and finance staff, compliance/quality/patient safety staff, and administrative personnel. We also work closely with academic institutions to train nurses, pharmacists, and behavioral health therapists.

We work to eliminate disparities to health care access for all those who experience barriers to care; whatever those may be.

History:
In 1993, we founded the Hilo Bay Clinic; a grass-roots health clinic at the Hilo Lagoon Center with 5 staff.
In 1996, we received our 501(c)3 nonprofit status.
In 1991, we opened the Pāhoa Family Health Center as a result of community requests for a health center to meet growing needs in Lower Puna.

In 1996, we opened the Ka‘ū Family Health Center when the sugar plantation’s health clinic closed, in response to community need in Na‘alehu.

In 1998, we relocated the Hilo Bay Clinic to the Hilo bay front; providing comprehensive medical and behavioral health care services.

In 2001, we opened the Kea‘au Family Health and Dental Center to serve the Upper Puna district; adding dental care to our services.

In 2003, we initiated the Kea‘au Youth Business Center for enriching health promotion activities for teens including music and the arts.

In 2008, we relocated and expanded services from the Hilo Bay Clinic to the Hilo Family Health Center.

In 2009, we opened the Pāhoa Women’s Health Center; our fifth health center serving women from age 14 and above.

And coming soon, we are opening a Mobile Dental Van to provide dental care to the Puna, Ka‘ū and Hilo districts.
