Kahuku Band
Kahuku Band is known as the "Pride of the North Shore." Students in grades 7-12 participate in band; they experience the pride that comes with practice and hard work, as well as the joy of creating music for audiences.
Description:
Band class is held during normal school hours. Throughout the day, the Beginning Band, Intermediate Band and Symphonic Band rehearses. Our marching band begins in the summer and continues throughout the fall, and has several after school rehearsals. We perform at marching band festivals, and march in several parades throughout the year. In the spring, the Symphonic Band has several concerts, and performs in local festivals. The program is being renovated, and is looking to expand.
History:
Kahuku Band has historically been one of the top ranked bands on the island of Oahu. In the 1980s, Kahuku Band was ranked as one of the top ten bands in America. Since the retirement of the band's founder, Michael Payton, numerous directors have tried to continue the band's tradition - despite scheduling conflicts, shrinking enrollment and budget deficiencies. Under the new direction of Kelly Dugger, the program is being renovated for expansion and success.
