The mission of KAUPA is to restore the natural and cultural resource within our ahupua'a through education, outreach and action.

Description:
KAUPA is a nonprofit, community-based organization centered in Kalihi Valley. Our goal is to instill an environmental ethic of caring for the land - "Malama i ka aina" - in Kalihi through environmental education activities within the community. We embrace both the traditional Hawaiian way of caring for our ahupua'a and the scientific process, and advocate balancing today's modern challenges with the wisdom of the past.
WHAT WE DO
• Facilitate monthly beverage container recycling fundraising drives.
• Organize semi-annual auto battery & tire collections for proper disposal.
• Conduct Kalihi Stream cleanups & restoration activities
• Partner with school & community groups to provide environmental education programs & activities.
• Promote a pedestrian & bike friendly community.
• Support environmentally sound work opportunities, such as community food production.
