SOUNDING JOY MUSIC THERAPY, INC. believes the power of music can transform and make a unique and life-changing difference in the lives of people of all ages and with / without disabilities. Our mission is to enhance public awareness of benefits of music therapy, to increase accessibility to music therapy services, and to advance music therapy research, in order to improve quality of life through therapeutic uses of music.
Description:
Music therapy is the structured use of music to assist people of all ages in times of need and as a therapeutic tool to facilitate human functioning and enhance quality of life. A well-established healthcare profession similar to occupational and physical therapy, music therapy uses carefully selected music and music interventions to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs. While music therapy may cure or solve problems brought on by crisis or disability, music therapy will help children and adults with special needs learn and use positive coping skills and express difficult feelings and emotions. Because music therapy is a powerful and non-invasive medium, unique outcomes are possible.
SOUNDING JOY MUSIC THERAPY, INC. offers music therapy services by board certified music therapists. It also holds music therapy seminars, classes and workshops for the purpose of raising people’s awareness of the benefits of music therapy. We are Medicare / Medicaid participating provider and an approved continuing education provider by Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
History:
SOUNDING JOY MUSIC THERAPY, INC. was established in September 2002, as the first and only 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the State of Hawaii to promote and provide music therapy. It was founded by Keiko Kajiwara, a Board Certified Music Therapist, to respond to the unmet demands for music therapy services for people with special needs in Hawaii.
