Friendship Force Of Honolulu

Last updated on October 21, 2007

Our mission is to promote world peace and understanding by creating an environment where individual friendships can be established across the barriers that separate people. The mission is accomplished by volunteers hosting people through Friendship Force International clubs from around the world. We, as volunteers in the Friendship Force of Honolulu, are able to travel to other global clubs for homestays of 4-7 days. During the home stay, we live with the families, taking part in their daily lives, getting a better understanding of their lives and their culture.

Description:
Friendship Force international is a non-profit organization dedicated to the principle that each person can make a contribution to global goodwill. This is done through home hospitality, providing opportunities for people of different countries and cultures to connect at a personal level. With close to 300 clubs world wide, more than half a million volunteer participants have experienced the personal enrichment and cross-cultural understanding that results from a Friendship Force Exchange, clubs visiting other clubs. We have hosted Brazilians, Russians, Germans, Hungarians, British, Aussies, Kiwi's, and Japanese to name a few. We have found that language is not a barrier and that people are pretty much the same the world over, our food, dress, and speech is different. We volunteer our time to host them, show them how we really live, and the wonders of our island. We travel as a group to another club each year to home stay with them and learn about their culture and how they live. The Friendship Force is a great way to truly learn the people of the world. Friends don't make war.

History:
Friendship Force of Honolulu is 16 years old. Our members are from across O'ahu, from all walks of life. We have hosted in our homes, people from Europe, Asia, South America and Australia-New Zealand. We have visited these areas as well. Spending time with strangers in their homes, learning about their way of life, their culture, their thoughts, and leaving as friends. We volunteer our time to host people who come to O'ahu, and we volunteer our time to travel to other countries and learn about people from other parts of the world. We show them what it is like to be American living on Oahu.
